Striped

On Saturday we painted my bed room with horizontal stripes, and it turned out AMAZING!

All thanks to my amazingly talented and kind friend Amy and her master-painter skills and multi-tasking abilities. We got the whole room done in one day. She taught me the most amazing painting trick ever! It involves a little caulk to get the crispest lines imaginable. I could not have done this with out her! 

I love love love the color and the stripes - Behr Valley Mist. Now when I walk in my room it feels fresh and homey. It definitely doesn't look like a renter's bedroom anymore. Now I am on the hunt for the perfect drapes.

I am so lucky to have such an awesome friend, who would give up their whole saturday to come help me paint. Thanks Amy! You're the Best!!

10 degrees

This is how River entertained himself while I tried to fix our garage door.

10 degrees outside turns everything into ice, 

and apparently glass doors into ice cream.

Neighbors

Since our first summer in our house, we've had the coolest neighbors,

Red-tailed Hawks.

We've watched them soar around the neighborhood, build their nests in our trees, raise their babies and then kick them out, and we've also picked up the occasional rabbit leg that's fallen into our yard when their eating. Gross, but kind of cool too.

They've been great neighbors.

Torrential

We've been having Crazy Storms this summer, almost every afternoon.

Supposedly Colorado has over 300 days of sunshine ...... yeah.

I'm kind of having one of those "Dumb and Dumber" moments, 

you know the one about John Denver singing about the Rockies....

Anyways, it's kind of cramping our style and keeping us inside WAY more than we like.

So Skyler, nostalgic for Houston Summer Rain, ran out side to play in the Rain.

The Cold mountain Rain was a stinging surprise, as you can see on his face.

He came in sopping wet after only a minute outside.

It turned out street in to a river, and our rain gutters into waterfalls.

Me and River stayed safe, warm, and dry inside and watched out the window

as the thick heavy rain fell heavy outside.

Hopeful Gardener : Raised Garden Bed

Since having our own yard, it was been my dream to have a wonderful garden. I have fond memories of gardens my family did growing up, watching my parents turn up the dirt, create little watering berms around the vegetables, i remember my mom watering with a hose, and the bounty we reaped, especially the warm tomoatoes you could pop into your mouth fresh from the vine. I distinctly remember the sweet peas, yellow pear tomatoes, lemon cucumbers and the squash-pumpkin hybrid.  I loved the idea of that being apart of our family experience.

So during the winter months I planned and I talked of it endlessly to Skyler, telling him all my ideas and about what I read.

Before I knew it Summer was almost upon us, so I began collecting my cinder blocks, slowly. 3 or 4 a day was all I could manage to wheel out and put in the car while River played in the cart. 

Things got busy with work and travel and I was becoming discouraged that my dream of a raised garden bed would pass me by this summer, but Skyler wouldn't let that happened. He put his shoulder to the wheel to make his little wife's heart happy. 

So we spent our weekends getting through the different phases of the build and now it is finished and the veggies are in. 

We're playing it small our first year to see how things do, but I already love it and want more garden beds all over the yard as daunting as the physical labor it would require. 

It's become a family affair. River loves to come our and play in the hose water while I give our tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and marigolds a drink. Charlie stands an ever-ready sentinel to chase off any squirrel, bunny, bird, or other foe that may approach or  little eden. 

So here's to trying out our Green Thumb.
